The ProArca Animal Association is a centre working
for the recovery and recuperation
of rescued wild animals, animals from zoos, circuses, private houses,
etc. Many have been
rescued by seprona (Enviromental Police), many are donations from families
or organisations
that look to offer a worthy life to the yong animals they chose and who
realise that animals
require a basic set of day-to-day needs which they are unable to provide.
This centre gives the animals a chance to recover from their
physical and psychological
abuse, whilst living outthe rest of their lives in an environment that
tries as closely as possible
to resemble their natural habitat.
Let’s take a look on the case of Taron, an old Atlas lion.
Taron was acquired when he
was a cub but soon became a “hindrance” to this “family”
who left him in small cellar of
their house, where he did not represent any danger. After seven years
of living in the dark and
without hardly being able to move, he was taken by Seprona and brought
here to El Arca,
almost dying, thin dirty and practically blind. Now, after a long recovery,
he has experienced a
great physical improvement and his psychological problems have also vastly
improved.
Philip is a lion with a light-coloured mane that was bought
by a “pet shop” with the
purpose of showcasing him in their shop window. Philip grew very quickly
like any lion. He
grew so much that his muscles couldn’t develop properly without
enough room to stretch out
and this prevented him from being able to keep himself standing, let alone
be able to alk.
Today, fully recovered, he wakes up with sun on his back next to four
lionesses and with
an enclosure of 5.000m2 to play in.
Chico, a Grey mangabey was taken from his mother’s arms
when just a baby by
hunters. After his mother was killed he was sold to a private house, where
his problems rapidly
increased due to his genetic aggressvenses.
Hugo, a Tabby Tiger, already very old, lives out the rest of
his life in this center. He
was used in traveling fair for 26 years of his life.
Cristina, another Tabby Tigress, spent 6 years within a small
enclourse, on show in an
animal store in Madrid, today she spends the rest of her days with Hugo.
Cañete, a small monkey who is very aggressive, destroyed
the his owner’s and also one
of his neighbours. He was found and brought in by Seprona. His story is
similar to the one of
Olga, a pigtail Macaco.
Sindy, a puma, worked for 5 years in a magical circus show.
She toured around the
worl with the show, but unfortunately the lights, music and applause,
proved highly stressful
for her. Her eventual fear and insecurity meant her owner decided to donate
Sindy to the
sacutary.
Toto, Peggy, Gerard and Sony are4 Chimpanzes, all came from
a poor circus, who
after running out of money decided to give them to the center after not
being able to look after
ahem. Previously they were test animals in laboratory.
Nino, a Tiger, was made to preform many cruel circus tricks
such as riding on an
